John is an Eagle Scout.  He is a bit goofy and at the same time he’s probably too serious; but at the end of the day he just wants to leave the world a better place than he found it. That can be seen in his work consulting with some of the world’s biggest consumer brands or his willingness to pick up a hammer and fix old houses because he wants them preserved for future generations.

John and his wife Dr. Andrea Hutchinson spent a lot of time talking about how poorly mental health professionals were treated during Andrea’s doctoral program.  As they observed numerous professionals leave the field they decided to take action starting CARE Counseling in 2014.  CARE Counseling uses the term Professional Practice to describe their work, at a high-level CARE Counseling is working to raise the bar in mental health by finding, training, and retaining the best talent.  CARE has successfully raised the bar for employees in meaningful ways every quarter for the past 5 years by increasing pay, reducing work, improving benefits, reducing costs associated with licensing and training, and simply being creative in the way they approach work to ensure their team has a better experience next year, every year.  This has led to a lot of growth and is great news for providers because CARE has got their back and will continue to heavily invest in raising the bar for providers in Minnesota.

In his personal time, John spends his time learning and working with wonderful groups like YPO, a global leadership community for young presidents. John understands the value in cultivating excellent leaders and continuously works to provide employees with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills.  Additionally, John is the chairman of the Board for CARE More, a nonprofit initiative focused on increasing access for BIPOC clinicians, empowering feminism, advocating for LGBTQIA+, and de-stigmatizing mental health. John also serves on Aroris Health’s Mental Health Committee, sits on Summit Realty’s Board, sits on Opus Health Advisory Committee, and leads Hutchinson Enterprises as it’s CEO.

In John’s opinion, he has the world’s best family including his boss on most days Dr. Andrea and his Chief Kid Officers Charlotte & Sophia.  John attended the University of Minnesota for undergraduate course work and St. Thomas’ Full Time MBA.
